MOON ALERT: Avoid shopping or important decisions from 3 a.m. until 6 a.m. today. The moon is in Virgo.

ARIES (March 21-April 19)

You will be impulsive when handling your money today. Impulse-shopping and sudden decisions about financial matters will occur. Be wise and hedge your bets by keeping your receipts and leaving a door open in all your negotiations.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)

Today is full of unexpected surprises that will delight you! You might have a chance to shmooz with someone or enjoy their company. You might also buy something to wear that you really like. In conversations with others, you will be bolder and more original.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)

A secret love affair might begin for some of you today. Meanwhile, many of you will have a chance to enjoy yourself in a private way by going off by yourself or having some solitude in a way that is pleasing and restful. (It’s an unexpected treat for you.)

CANCER (June 21-July 22)

You might meet a new friend today or someone you know might surprise you in a delightful way by doing or saying something you least expect. You might join a group or be asked to join an organization. Some minor surprises dealing with friends and groups are in store for you because today is full of little surprises.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)

You might have an unexpected chance to impress someone in a position of authority — a boss, parent, teacher, VIP or member the police. This can work two ways, which means someone in authority might suddenly do something unexpected that impresses you! (It might be a flirtation.)

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

A sudden opportunity to travel might drop into your lap today. Others might have an unexpected opportunity to take a course or get further training or learning in a field that appeals. New romance with someone “different” might begin because this is an exciting day!

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

Keep your pockets open because gifts, goodies and favours from others can come your way today. You might even receive cash. Others might explore new romance that is suddenly passionate and memorable! Woot! (This is not a boring day.)

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

A partner or close friend will surprise you in some way today. They might say or do something you least expect. They might even suggest a new arrangement in the relationship? Alternatively, they might introduce you to someone new and exciting. Stay open and flexible.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Surprising news related to your health or a pet might occur today. Those of you at work today (or ready to tackle a specific task) might be pleasantly surprised at how something unfolds. An unexpected reward might await you?

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

A surprise invitation to a social event might come your way today. If so, this window of opportunity will be brief so you will have to act fast. Romance and flirtations will also hold surprises for you. Meanwhile, parents should keep their eyes on their kids today because things are unpredictable.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Stock the fridge because you might spontaneously entertain at home today. You might also buy something high-tech or perhaps some modern art for where you live. Keep your receipts in case you change your mind because everything is happening fast and “on the run.” A real-estate deal might also be surprising.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)

This is a pleasant day because you are bound to encounter new faces, see new places and hear new ideas because something unusual will make this day memorable. Spontaneous short trips are likely.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY

Tattoo artist Kat Von D (1982) shares your birthday today. You are highly individualistic and a perfectionist. You march to the beat of your own drum. Service to others is your theme this year, especially with family. This means you must take care of yourself so you are a strong resource for yourself and others. Invest in the relationships you value. Tap into your personal creativity and hobbies.

Teen urges premier to reject data centre, ‘put people and the environment first’

A 17-year-old who started a petition against the construction of an AI data centre northwest of Winnipeg has made a personal appeal to the premier to stop it.

Leona Gollub emailed Premier Wab Kinew to voice her concern about the environmental impact of a 5.5-megawatt AI data centre that’s being built on Brookside Boulevard in the Centreport industrial area in the Rural Municipality of Rosser, northwest of Winnipeg.

She said she worries about the noise and light pollution that would be emitted by the facility, and the massive amount of electricity it will require that could instead power people’s homes.

The premier, who recently rejected a data centre in Île dês Chênes, southeast of Winnipeg, thanked her for her concern in an email but did not go beyond that.

City seeks to have Manwin suit tossed

Erik Pindera 3 minute read Yesterday at 6:00 AM CDT

The City of Winnipeg says the claims made by the owner of the Manwin Hotel, in a lawsuit filed after the dilapidated Main Street property was destroyed by fire this year, are baseless.

Lawyers for the city have filed papers that seek to have the suit by Akim Kambamba thrown out.

The suit, filed in the Court of King’s Bench in the spring, seeks $15 million, plus court costs, over the Jan. 14 fire in the vacant hotel at 655 Main St., which has since been demolished.

The company accused the city of breaching its duty to it and wrongfully evicting the tenants, who had been ordered out owing to numerous safety concerns last year.

Netanyahu’s remaining options: military victory or jail

Gwynne Dyer 5 minute read 2:00 AM CDT

“The graveyards are full of indispensable men,” said former French premier Georges Clemenceau about a century ago and it’s still true. Israel’s precisely timed surprise attack on Iran on Feb. 28 killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and seven of his closest allies in 30 seconds, but they turned out not to be indispensable at all.

“The problem is that Israel is in love with assassinations … and we never learn that it is not the solution. We have killed all the leaders of Hamas. They are still there. It’s the same with Hezbollah. The leaders are always replaced,” said Israeli intelligence analyst Yossi Melman.

And so they have been again in Iran.

Prime Minister Benjamin (Bibi) Netanyahu’s ‘decapitation’ attack went off perfectly: the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) even managed to kill 40 senior leaders in other parts of Iran at the same time. And yet all those assassinations achieved precisely nothing: the next tier of Iranian leaders just moved up and the population did not rise up against them.
