In Toronto, the S&P/TSX composite index was down 1,276.25 points to 14,898.77.

The Dow Jones industrial average was down 1,884.88 points to 23,979.90.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index was down 208.16 points to 2,764.21.

The Nasdaq composite index was down 588.18 points to 7,987.44.

The Canadian dollar was trading at 73.43 cents US compared to an average of 74.51 cents US on Friday.
