Hey there, time traveller!

The St. Norbert Farmers’ Market is adjusting to the global pandemic by offering a hybrid market, which involves both on-site shopping and online ordering.
The non-profit co-operative market did a quiet launch of the new system earlier this month and will continue to operate under the market’s big canopy with essential products only while adding an online option.
The online system has been designed to allow customers to browse a product list from more than 30 local producers and pre-paying before they head to the market, located at 3514 Pembina Hwy.
“We did have one pickup at the market on (April 4) and we had about 50 customers that did the online option and it gave us a chance to get a feel for how it would all work,” said executive director Marilyn Firth Wednesday. “We pulled it together very fast and we’ve been working out a few of the kinks on it but more of the vendors are online and it’s becoming a fuller picture than it was.”
Customers can do pickups using a drive-thru option or by coming under the canopy for orders, where both online vendors and those not yet online will be found.
Additional producers will be adding their products as time goes on.
The market, which normally operates biweekly in the spring and weekly during the summer months, has its next two scheduled dates on April 18 and May 2.
“We’re watching the situation to see whether it’s viable to go weekly once we hit May or we should just keep it biweekly,” said Firth. “The situation is changing so quickly; we’re just trying to adjust ourselves to it like everyone else is at this point.”
Online ordering is available now on the market’s website at www.stnorbertfarmersmarket.ca.
Firth said the cooperative is also considering the possibility of bringing back the open-air section while also maintaining safety on the site.
“If we can manage our site such that we can control people entering and exiting, then we will try to move into an open-air situation as soon as we can,” said Firth.
