More Manitobans are now hospitalized with COVID-19 than ever.
Public health officials said on Sunday in a release, as new deaths and infections were announced, that 288 people are now hospitalized with the virus. Fifty-two COVID-19 patients are in intensive care.
Another 12 deaths, all within Winnipeg, were reported on Sunday. There have now been 229 COVID-19 deaths in Manitoba.
Five of the deaths were connected to COVID-19 outbreaks including a death at Parkview Place and another at Maples Long Term Care Home — two Revera-owned private care homes that have been hardest hit by the virus in Manitoba. Three deaths were connected with deaths at Victoria General Hospital, Parkview Place, Maple Long Term Care Home, Beacon Hill Lodge and St. Norbert Personal Care Home.
Among the dead were one man in his 40s, one man in his 60s, a man and woman in their 70s, a man and three women in their 80s, and two men and two women in their 90s.
There were 243 new virus cases announced Sunday, the lowest new infection number reported since Nov. 14, when 239 cases were identified.
The province’s test positivity rate dropped slightly to 13.7 per cent provincially and 13.4 per cent in Winnipeg.
Another 135 new cases were recorded in the Winnipeg health region, 49 cases in Southern Health, 29 cases in the Northern health region, 15 cases in Prairie Mountain and 14 cases in Interlake-Eastern.
There are 8,122 active cases and 5,193 individuals have recovered from COVID-19.
