Recently, I had an appointment at the Heath Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. Not sure of where to park, I chose the parkade on William Street. It was not a good choice, and while attempting to back out I rubbed the back mud guard on the curved curb. A lady watching me in distress offered to park the vehicle for me. I thought she was an attendant and so I agreed. After she had parked the van on the third floor she asked where I was going. It turns out that she was also a patient coming in from Fisher Branch for her regular monthly scan for cancer.

She walked me to the entrance and made arrangements to meet me after her appointment. That’s the way it worked out. I only got her first name, Joan, and the name of her husband, Bernie, and feel quite foolish that I did not have the presence of mind to ask for her last name. Nevertheless, she was an angel helping me in my time of frustration and confusion. It was an act of kindness shown to a stranger, the greatest gift of the Christmas season. I am grateful.

We want to thank those CP Rail engineers who take the time to open their window, give a wave and an extra toot of the horn to our little grandchildren as we stand with them at the end of our lane and watch the train go by in southwest Morris. We have been watching and waiting for the trains for the last five years and it brings us all so much joy.
