A look at what’s happening in European soccer on Tuesday:

ENGLAND

Arsenal returns to Southampton on Tuesday fresh from being knocked out of the FA Cup there on Saturday. Manager Mikel Arteta made seven changes for the game but is expected to bring back Bukayo Saka, Thomas Partey, Kieran Tierney and Emile Smith Rowe into the Arsenal lineup. A win could move Arsenal within four points of the top four, having been languishing just above the relegation zone last month. West Ham could break into the top four with a victory at Crystal Palace. Newcastle hosts Leeds without a win in 10 games in all competitions and having collected only two points from its last eight Premier League matches. Steve Bruce’s side has only one goal in its last eight matches. Leeds are bidding to avoid a fourth straight defeat after two league losses sandwiched a humbling FA Cup exit against lowly Crawley.

SPAIN

The round of 16 of the Copa del Rey begins with a pair of matches between first-division clubs. Valladolid hosts Levante to start the day, then Real Sociedad visits Real Betis. Valladolid and Levante are in the bottom half of the Spanish league, while Sociedad and Betis are closer to the top. Villarreal visits second-division club Girona in the only other Copa match. The round of 16 is still played in one-game matchups.

ITALY

Inter Milan and city rival AC Milan are competing for the Serie A title but meet on Tuesday with a place in the Italian Cup semifinals at stake. The winner will next play Juventus or Spal, who meet on Wednesday. Milan needed penalties to beat Torino to reach the quarterfinals while Romelu Lukaku scored at the end of extra time to secure Inter a 2-1 win over Fiorentina and its place in the final eight. Both Milan teams had disappointing results in the league last weekend but the Rossoneri remained top, two points above second-placed Inter. Inter has won the Italian Cup seven times, but not since 2011. Milan won the last of its five Italian Cup trophies in 2003.
