Ninety-five new COVID-19 infections were reported Wednesday in Manitoba alongside the deaths of four more seniors.

Provincial public health officials said a man and a woman, both in their 70s and from the Southern Health-Sante Sud region, a Winnipeg woman in her 70s, and a Winnipeg man in his 90s connected to the outbreak at Concordia Place Personal Care Home have died from the disease.

Since last March, 813 Manitobans have died due to COVID-19.

Winnipeg led the way in new cases announced Wednesday (44) followed by the Northern Health region, which had 43 new infections. Prairie Mountain Health and Southern Health reported three new cases each and Interlake-Eastern had two.

The five-day test positivity rate in Manitoba is 9.6 per cent and 6.1 per cent in Winnipeg. Just 1,576 tests were performed at labs Tuesday.

A total of 281 people were in hospital Wednesday receiving treatment for COVID-19, including 36 in intensive care (127 patients had active COVID-19 infections).

A new outbreak has been declared at Saul and Claribel Simkin Centre in Winnipeg. Outbreaks have resolved at Milner Ridge Correctional Centre in Beausejour, Headingley Correctional Centre, St. Norbert Personal Care Home in Winnipeg and Lions Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, the province said.

So far in Manitoba, 33,361 doses of vaccine have been given, including 28,274 first injections and 5,087 second shots. The province has received a total of 55,650 doses of the vaccine from the federal government (40,950 Pfizer and 14,700 Moderna).

According to the province, 18 adverse reactions have been reported in the province following immunization.

Public-health officials have said the province’s vaccine inventory will be exhausted by Feb. 7.

The province is scheduled to receive some Pfizer vaccine next week. The federal government has not yet informed the province how much vaccine it will receive the week of Feb. 8, officials said. That information is expected to be released Friday.

Depending on how many doses are received the week of Feb. 8, the province may be forced to delay some second-dose appointments at the Winnipeg and Brandon super-site clinics.

People with appointments should plan to attend as scheduled unless they are notified otherwise, the province said.
