Province reports 51 COVID cases, two deaths, including woman in her 20s

A Winnipeg woman in her 20s was one of two COVID-19 deaths reported in Manitoba Thursday, along with 51 new cases.

There were 26 reported in the Northern health region, 22 in Winnipeg and three in Southern Health-Santé Sud region; no cases were reported in either Interlake-Eastern or Prairie Mountain regions.

A woman in her 90s was the second death reported Thursday, and was linked to the outbreak at Park Manor Care Home.

The test positivity rate fell to 3.2 per cent provincially and 2.6 per cent in Winnipeg.

There were no new cases of the B.1.1.7 or B.1.351 variants that originated in the U.K. and South Africa, respectively; at present there have been six confirmed cases of B.1.1.7 and two of B.1.351.

There are 62 people in hospital and nine in intensive-care units with active COVID-19, and 119 in hospital and 15 in ICUs with COVID-19 who are no longer considered infectious.

Cases are spiking in in Mathias Colomb Cree Nation in Pukatawagan. The chief and council have announced a midnight curfew for residents and have banned any public gatherings. Residents are being asked to leave their homes only for essential supplies or to seek testing and medical treatment.
