The University of Winnipeg Wesmen women’s basketball team improved its non-conference record to 3-0 with a 91-56 triumph of the Manitoba Bisons at the Duckworth Centre Sunday afternoon. 

Kyanna Giles poured in 26 points, 10 rebounds and four steals and Keylyn Filewich added 14 points and 10 rebounds as the Wesmen went unbeaten during the CJOB Shootout pre-season tournament, posting earlier wins over the Brandon University Bobcats and the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers.

Giles was named a tournament all-star while Winnipeg guard Robyn Boulanger was honoured as tournament MVP. Manitoba’s Lauren Bartlett, Brandon’s Reetta Tulkki and CMU’s Julia Schatkowsky were also named a tournament all-stars.

Anna Kernaghan had 13 points, five rebounds and five assists for Winnipeg, which did not trail in the three tournament games.

Samantha Onyebuchi and Taylor Randall both had 10 points for the Bisons.

In an earlier game, the Bobcats upended the CMU Blazers 80-67.
