One of the world’s most influential and powerful women, Indra Nooyi, will receive the International Distinguished Entrepreneur Award for 2022.
Nooyi, the former CEO and chair of PepsiCo, will join an exclusive group of business leaders who are honoured annually by the Associates of the Asper School of Business.
“Indra Nooyi has an incredible legacy of achieving transformational growth for PepsiCo and inspiring many with her maverick leadership style and purposeful risk-taking,” Arni Thorsteinson, the IDEA committee’s chair, said in a news release.
“As the first woman of colour and immigrant to lead a Fortune 50 company, she represents the immense importance of diversity and inclusion at all levels of leadership and we are truly honoured to present her with this well-deserved recognition.”
Nooyi was born in India, where she earned a bachelor’s and MBA and first stepped into business. In 1978, she attended Yale University for another master’s, in public and private management, before joining Boston Consulting Group.
She headed departments at Motorola and ABB before joining PepsiCo. Now, she’s on a number of boards, including Amazon’s (she chairs the audit committee) and the International Cricket Council.
Time Magazine named her one of its most influential people in 2007 and 2008, and both Forbes and Fortune have added her to their lists of powerful women.
Sir Richard Branson, David Foster, and, most recently, Dr. Ernest Rady are among those honoured with an IDEA award. It’s been presented since 1984.
Nooyi will receive hers at the IDEA award dinner on May 3 at the RBC Convention Centre.
