Suspects who fatally shot a man in a St. Vital house had also attempted to kill two others as part of a home invasion, Winnipeg police say.

At about 5:30 a.m. Nov. 29, 42-year-old Tyler Patrick Yarema was wounded in a home on the 200 block of Forrester Avenue. He later died in hospital of his injuries.

Yarema had been sleeping when he was wounded in the stomach, a justice source said at the time. A dog was also shot and children were sleeping nearby.

On. Jan 28, investigators arrested a fifth and final suspect in the slaying — 23-year-old Bryce Alexander Keating of Winnipeg — near Ellice Avenue and Wall Street, police said Tuesday.

Keating was charged with second-degree murder, possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

Police have confirmed Yarema did not live in the home but had been staying there at the time of the fatal shooting.

Officers made a first arrest Dec. 21: Keegan Shamus McGee Little, 24, was charged with second-degree murder.

On Jan. 11, investigators publicly identified four more suspects; that same day, police arrested Jamie Rae Shorting, 24. He’s charged with second-degree murder, possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, and three counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

On Jan. 19, police arrested 33-year-old Jamie Lee Rudolph. He is charged with two counts of attempt to commit murder using a restricted firearm, second-degree murder, four counts of possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, and two counts of failing to comply with conditions of a release order.

On Jan. 20, Jake Steven Ducharme, 32, turned himself in at Winnipeg police headquarters. He’s charged with second-degree murder.

All five remain in custody; all have lengthy court records, including convictions for violence, the Free Press found.

“I certainly don’t remember the last time (the WPS) identified five suspects… in a homicide,” Const. Rob Carver said in January.

Police have not revealed a motive for the slaying.
