Ukraine rally returns for third weekend at legislature

Hundreds have gathered outside the Manitoba Legislative Building for the third weekend in a row to rally in support for Ukraine.

Russia invaded the neighbouring nation nearly three weeks ago. While many Ukrainians have stayed to defend their country, millions have also fled as refugees.

Sunday’s rally is calling for increased military, economic and humanitarian support from the Canadian government, a NATO-imposed no-fly zone and help from the Manitoba government in settling refugees.

The rally also honours Taras Shevchenko, considered a national hero in Ukraine. A monument to the 19th century poet and activist sits on the west grounds of the Manitoba Legislative Building.
