Just like the return of the robins and geese heralds the approach of spring, another sign winter is slowly leaving is the closure of the popular skating trail at The Forks.
Jenna Khan, a spokeswoman for The Forks, said the entire Nestaweya River Trail, presented this year by the Winnipeg Foundation, will close for the season at the end of today.
Khan said on Tuesday the section of the trail on the Red River from Churchill Drive to Queen Elizabeth Way closed on March 8 so, the last section open is from the Norwood Bridge to the port at The Forks.
But Khan said just because the skating trails on the Red and Assiniboine Rivers have closed, skaters can still find a place to skate at The Forks.
“On-land skating trails will remain open for now,” she said.
