Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went on an absolute tear last night against the Yankees, going 4-for-4 with three homers — or a hat-trick, a Canadian fan might say — in Toronto’s 6-4 win in the Bronx. And in between all that offensive madness, Guerrero Jr. almost came out of the game after Yankee Aaron Hicks stepped on his hand during the second inning.

But a bloodied finger and a few stitches couldn’t stop Guerrero Jr. — he went on to hit two more homers, one of which came off an inside 98-mph heater from Yankees ace Gerrit Cole.

And with New York City arguably being the baseball mecca that it is, Guerrero Jr.’s impressive display got fans, media and even opposing players talking. Here’s what some are saying.

The New York Post probably had the print headline of the night, along with some gems from others:

Even Yankees players had to admit their awe after the loss, including pitcher Gerrit Cole who tipped his cap to Guerrero Jr. during the game and had to explain it to the New York media afterwards:

Those weren’t the only hat tips of the night. Baseball writers everywhere were gushing about the young star’s performance:

And at a certain point, you just have to laugh:

The Blue Jays and Yankees close out their four-game series on Thursday, then Toronto will head back home for a three-game stint against the Athletics this weekend.
