Three suspects charged after firearms seized near Pembina Highway

The Winnipeg Police Service arrested three suspects near Pembina Highway and Jubillee Avenue Saturday midnight after conducting a high-risk traffic stop and a short follow.

A shotgun along with some quantity of powder cocaine, crack cocaine, and tablets believed to be ecstasy were seized. The drugs were packaged for distribution, police said.

A 23-year-old male of Winnipeg was arrested and charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, three charges of pointing a firearm, careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, among others. Two other suspects, 22 and 21-year-old males who were also charged have been released on an undertaking.

The arrest followed a report that WPS received on Friday, Aug. 19, of a male carrying a gun in a vehicle in the area of Portage Avenue and Ashburn Street.

The suspects were traveling in a motor vehicle eastbound on Portage Avenue when one of the occupants pointed a shotgun at the three victims in a passing vehicle, the Major Crimes Unit said. The vehicle and the suspects fled the area before police arrived.
