A historic number of voters have turned out to take part in advance voting for this month’s municipal and school board elections.
There were 41,895 advance voters this year, a 5.1 per cent increase from the previous record (39,840), set in 2018.
“Every election, our goal is to streamline the process, reduce wait times, and improve service for people casting a ballot,” Marc Lemoine, senior election official for the City of Winnipeg, said in a statement Friday.
“We’re seeing the results of that initiative based on the record number of voters who took advantage of the convenient opportunities.”
Voters can no longer take part in advance voting, which ran Oct. 3-21 at locations across the city.
Anyone who hasn’t yet voted can do so on election day: Oct. 26. Poll locations will be open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Voters can check the notice listing election day voting locations mailed out to everyone registered to vote or check winnipeg.ca/wheredoivote to find out where they can cast their ballot.
