Martial arts instructor charged with sexual assault of student

A martial arts instructor has been charged with sexually assaulting a teenage student.

Winnipeg police said its child abuse unit began investigating in July in relation to alleged incidents between May and July.

The victim told police the instructor touched them in an unwanted and sexual manner before they entered the class. Another time, the instructor tried to kiss the student, police said.

The gender and age of the student, and the location of the incidents, were not made public.

Police said their investigation found the teen had been groomed through electronic communication.

Noah James Beaton-Stokell, 23, of Winnipeg, is charged with sexual assault and sexual exploitation. He was released with conditions imposed by the Crown.

A Canadian named Noah Beaton-Stokell self-published a novel called Honour about 16th-century Japan. On an Amazon web page for the book, he said he’s “a fourth-degree black belt in taekwondo, and trains in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.”

“He fell in love with teaching martial arts and loves to inspire others with the skills and lifestyle it provides,” the author said. “His martial arts skills translate into intense action scenes in his writing.”
