NEW YORK (AP) — Ryan Seacrest will usher in 2023 on “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” from Times Square, with iconic bands from the 1980s and 1990s as well as a member of BTS and a TikTok sensation.

Duran Duran, fresh off an induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, will play from a catalogue that includes hits like “Hungry Like the Wolf,” “The Reflex” and “Rio.” R&B and pop group New Edition will celebrate their 40th anniversary by performing a medley of chart-toppers and solo hits like “Rub You The Right Way,” “My Prerogative,” “Poison,” “If It Isn’t Love,” and “Cool It Now.”

J-hope, South Korean songwriter and member of BTS, will play a medley of his “= (Equal Sign),” “Chicken Noodle Soup” and the band’s “Butter.” And Tik-Tok star Jax will sing pop hits “Victoria’s Secret” and “90s Kids.” Singer and rapper Farruko will perform from Puerto Rico.

Actress and producer Liza Koshy will return as co-host alongside Seacrest, actor-singer Roselyn Sanchez will co-host from Puerto Rico and Billy Porter will be back in New Orleans for the Central Time Zone countdown.

There will be pre-taped performances in Disneyland from Aly & AJ, Bailey Zimmerman, Ben Platt, Ciara, Fitz & The Tantrums, Halle Bailey, Lauren Spencer Smith, Maddie & Tae, Shaggy and TXT. And from Los Angeles, there will be performances by Armani White, Betty Who, Dove Cameron, Finneas, Nicky Youre and Wiz Khalifa.

Seacrest, inheritor of ABC’s legendary “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” from Dick Clark, reached 19.6 million viewers between 11:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m., last New Year’s Eve, according to Nielsen. During the 15-minute interval where the ball dropped in New York’s Times Square, his audience jumped to 24.2 million people.

“New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” will air Dec. 31 on ABC.

Those getting ready to rock on Sunday night at Princess Auto Stadium, can prime their engines at AC/DC’s PWR/UP Pop-Up this weekend.

Fans lined up all the way down Fort Street south of the Pyramid Cabaret for a special preview event on Friday night.

“We’re so excited,” said Marcella Ceron shortly after getting into the Pyramid. Ceron and her husband were hoping to win tickets to Sunday’s concert, one of a number of promotions running throughout the pop-up’s tenure at the downtown bar. “We were in line since 5 o’clock.”

According to organizers, the venues across Canada have been handpicked – including the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver and Foufounes Électriques in Montreal, among others — owing to their reputations as “places where fans already gather and music culture lives.”

Emilia Cameron of the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction told attendees at a September luncheon the recent flooding and heavy rainfall across southern Manitoba affected several businesses.

“Businesses need to prepare not just for direct damages to buildings, but for wide disruptions that can prevent them from operating,” she said. “Road closures, power outages, damaged infrastructure, internet failures and employees being unable to reach work can all bring operations to a standstill.”

Supply chains can also be affected when suppliers cannot reach their customers, she said.

The sound of sirens followed shortly after when emergency crews came to the scene. The intersection was immediately blocked off.

Cassity Delvenne, a 24-year-old Indigenous woman, was arrested by the Brandon Police Service (BPS) and charged with impaired driving and resisting arrest on June 12.

A 45-second bystander video of Delvenne’s arrest shows officers on top of her, repeatedly striking her. Brandon Police acknowledge that the officers did hit Delvenne.

Allegations of excessive force have been levied against the arresting officers. Delvenne’s mother maintains that she has photos showing extensive injuries to her daughter that include bloodied ears, bruising, and a chipped tooth.

Delvenne reportedly made a complaint to the BPS following her arrest. She died nine days later. The exact cause of her death is under investigation.
