The Manitoba Moose hosted the Abbotsford Canucks at the Canada Life Centre Saturday afternoon, coming off a 4-2 loss against Abbotsford the previous night.

The Moose led 2-1 by intermission, but the Canucks tied the score, then led 3-2 in the third period.

Abbotsford ended the game with a 5-2 win.

 

The Winnipeg Ice won a second consecutive game against the visiting Saskatoon Blades with a 2-1 victory in overtime at the Ice Cave inside Wayne Fleming Arena on Saturday.

The game-winning goal was scored 44 seconds into the extra frame by defenceman Ben Zloty.

The Ice will host the Portland Winterhawks on Jan. 8.

Winnipeg police have arrested a man accused of shooting a replica gun at a vehicle on New Year’s Eve, injuring a passenger.

Officers were called to intersection of Broadway and Maryland Street at about 5 p.m. for a report of gunshots, where they found the driver, a 38-year-old woman, and a passenger, a 65-year-old woman. The passenger was injured by glass shards, police said.

The officers were directed to a residence on the nearby 700 block of Broadway, where they arrested a man and seized an airsoft handgun and a machete. Police allege the suspect shot the replica gun from the residence at the vehicle, shattering the window. He didn’t know the victims, police said.

An 18-year-old man from Winnipeg is charged with assault with a weapon, discharge air gun or pistol with intent, possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order and two counts of possession of a weapon. He was detained.

Two men were stabbed in the upper body in the hallway of a St. Boniface apartment building  early on Dec. 31, Winnipeg police say.

Officers were called to the 300 block of Goulet Street at about 5:15 a.m., where they found a 58-year-old man in unstable condition and a 67-year-old man in stable condition, along with a suspect. The two victims were taken to hospital, while police seized two weapons.

Major crimes investigators allege the suspect was in a common hallway of the complex, knocking on residents’ doors. The younger victim went to the hall, when he was stabbed, then the elder victim was stabbed when he came out to help, police said. The suspect did not know the victims.

Police have charged a 48-year-old woman from Winnipeg with two counts each of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon. She’s also been charged with carrying a concealed weapon and mischief under $5,000. She’s been detained.

Four people had to flee their North End home on New Year’s Day after a fire broke out.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said crews were called to a blaze at a one-and-a-half storey house on the 500 block of Pritchard Avenue at 2:21 p.m. on Jan. 1.

The residents fled before fire crews arrived. Paramedics assessed one person at the scene, but no one had to be taken to hospital. Firefighters got the flames under control by just after 3 p.m.

City emergency social services workers are helping the residents find an alternative place to stay temporarily.
