McPhillips reopens after derailment

McPhillips Street reopened in both directions early Saturday after a train derailment Friday morning.
The Winnipeg Police Service made the announcement shortly after 2 a.m.
McPhillips was closed to traffic between Jarvis and Logan avenues after the derailment at 7:47 a.m. Friday.
City announces street closures, transit reroutes ahead of street party

Southbound Donald Street between Ellice and St Mary avenues will be closed today at 6 a.m. until Sunday at 7 a.m. to accommodate the Winnipeg Whiteout Street Party. Eastbound and westbound Graham Avenue, between Hargrave and Smith streets will be closed today from noon until 7 p.m.
Information on lane closures can be found online.
The city says Winnipeg Transit will be rerouted off of Graham Avenue between Kennedy and Smith streets from noon until approximately one hour after the game between the Winnipeg Jets and Vegas Golden Knights has ended.
Passengers can catch a bus affected by the route change at Graham Avenue and Vaughan Street, and at Graham and Fort Street.

Firefighters respond to two fires overnight

Winnipeg firefighters responded to two fires Friday night.
Around 10:57 p.m., officers with the Winnipeg Police Service reported a potential housefire at a home in the 500 block of William Avenue. Firefighters arrived on scene to find flames and smoke billowing from the home, making it unsafe to enter, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said in a release Saturday.
Crews attacked the fire from outside, declaring it under control shortly before 1 a.m. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Firefighters elsewhere in the city responded to a fire in an apartment in the 100 block of Quail Ridge Road around 12:09 a.m. By the time crews arrived, the fire had been extinguished, WFPS said.
One person was transported to the hospital. The cause of the fire is believed to be an accident and related to a small appliance, WFPS said.
Man, 37, dead after collision on South Perimeter Highway

A 37-year-old man is dead and two others are in hospital following a two-vehicle collision Friday night near the intersection of the South Perimeter Highway and McGillivray Blvd., said RCMP.
Investigators found the 37 year old was driving northbound in the southbound lane just before midnight when his vehicle collided with another. The 37 year old’s passenger, a 28-year-old woman, and the driver of the other vehicle, a 21-year-old man, were taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The 37 year old was pronounced dead at the scene.
RCMP say alcohol was not a factor. The investigation continues.
Jets trail Golden Knights 2-1 after first period

The Winnipeg Jets trail the Vegas Golden Knights 2-1 through one period of play in Game 3 of their first-round, best-of-seven series.
Vegas opened the scoring just 2:52 into the game, with Chandler Stephenson firing a shot through the legs of Jets defenceman Nate Schmidt that beat Connor Hellebuyck’s high-glove. Jack Eichel made it 2-0 a few minutes later, registering his second goal of the series on the power play.
The Jets cut the lead to 2-1 with a goal from Kyle Connor, who tipped home a nice pass from Dylan DeMelo nine minutes into the frame. Brenden Dillon drew the second assist.
Shots are 10-6 in favour of the Golden Knights.
The series is tied 1-1, with the Jets winning the first game 5-1, followed by the Golden Knights winning Game 2 by a score of 5-2.
Morrissey ruled out of Game 3 vs. Vegas

The Winnipeg Jets were dealt a significant blow just minutes into Game 3 of their first-round, best-of-seven series against the Vegas Golden Knights at Canada Life Centre.
Defenceman Josh Morrissey suffered an undisclosed injury nearly four minutes after puck drop and was later ruled out of the game by the Jets communications staff. Morrissey appeared to injure his right knee when it collided with the left knee of Golden Knights defenceman Zach Whitecloud during a hit on an early Jets power play.
The Jets will play the rest of the game with five defenceman, with left-side defenders Brenden Dillon and Dylan Samberg likely to get a bump in ice time. The series is tied 1-1.

The Winnipeg Jets trail the Vegas Golden Knights 4-1 through two periods of play in Game 3 of their first-round, best-of-seven series.

Michael Amadio delivered the fatal dagger 3:40 into double overtime to give the Vegas Golden Knights a 5-4 victory over the Winnipeg Jets at Canada Life Centre Saturday afternoon.
Down 4-1 in the third period, the Jets stormed back with three goals, including a marker by Adam Lowry with 22 seconds remaining in the third period, to even the game and force extra time.
