Dubois says he hasn’t decided on Jets future

12:53 PM

Winnipeg Jets forward Pierre-Luc Dubois says he hasn’t decided on his long-term future with the team.

Dubois is a pending restricted free agent this summer who can become an unrestricted free agent by the summer of 2024. There’s been plenty of speculation he will look to sign with his hometown Montreal Canadiens.

“There’s a lot of fake things out there, a lot of people saying they heard this or they heard that,” Dubois said at the team’s final media session on Saturday afternoon.

“At the end of the day, I haven’t said anything or done anything. It’s just speculation. Like I said, I haven’t made a decision. We just lost, the season just ended two days ago. People speculated all year and nothing new was coming up, nothing new was happening. People speculated all the time. I can’t control that. Like I said, I haven’t put much thought into anything yet.”

Firefighter hospitalized after apartment fire

3:33 PM

A fire at an apartment building in the Richmond West neighborhood displaced several tenants and sent one firefighter to the hospital Saturday morning.

Multiple fire crews responded to the five-storey building on Newdale Avenue around 9:41 a.m. to find heavy smoke and flames billowing from the structure, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said in a release.

Firefighters helped with evacuation efforts and battled flames both inside and from the exterior. The blaze was under control within a half-hour, but several suites suffered smoke, fire and water damage. A Winnipeg Transit bus was called to provide shelter for people who were temporarily displaced, WFPS said.

No residents were injured as a result of the blaze, but one firefighter was transported to hospital in stable condition.

Crews ventilated smoke from the building to ensure it was safe for residents whose suites were undamaged to return, WFPS said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.
