A woman who was allegedly abducted at random and taken to a cabin south of The Pas Saturday is now safe, police say.
In a news release, The Pas RCMP said they received a report just before noon Saturday that a 24-year-old woman had been abducted on Highway 10 near The Pas.
Officers determined the name of the suspect, that he was driving a grey Honda Civic and the area where he could be transporting the woman — a cabin “associated to the suspect” in the Red Deer River area, 135 km south of The Pas. RCMP in both The Pas and Saskatchewan then put up roadblocks in the area.
At 1:10 pm, officers arrived at the cabin where they found the suspect’s vehicle and saw the abducted woman at a window. Officers then entered the cabin and rescued the woman.
Police arrested the 34-year-old suspect at the cabin. He is facing a number of charges including kidnapping and police say his name will be released when charges are formally laid.
The victim is being provided with supports, police said in the release.
