Saskatchewan RCMP are appealing to Winnipeg residents for information about other suspects in a rural slaying in that province after a Manitoba teen was charged with first-degree murder.
A 17-year-old boy from north-central Manitoba — Mounties won’t name the community, arguing it could identify him — was arrested in Winnipeg Saturday and charged with murder, among other offences in a deadly Feb. 10 break-and-enter.
RCMP officers from the detachment in Esterhazy and Broadview, Sask., were called to a home about 20 kilometres south of Stockholm and Esterhazy at about 4 a.m. on Feb. 10, where officers found a man dead and a woman injured.

Those Saskatchewan communities, which are near the provincial border, are about 225 kilometres northwest of Brandon.
Saskatchewan RCMP said in a news release that three males had broken into the rural home and discharged a gun. The suspects stole electronics, jewelry, three guns and a “significant amount” of ammunition from the home, as well as the homeowner’s vehicle, which was found burned nearby.
Mounties released sketches of three suspects shortly after the break-in, but would not say whether they believe the accused arrested over the weekend is depicted in any of the pictures.
In a statement released Monday evening, the officer in charge of Saskatchewan RCMP major crimes, Supt. Joshua Graham, said Mounties have determined the youth spent “considerable time” in Winnipeg recently.
He appealed to people in Winnipeg and the surrounding areas to contact Saskatchewan RCMP at 1-306-310-RCMP (7267) if they think the recognize the people in the sketches or if they have information on the rural slaying, sex assault and break-and-enter.
Winnipeg Police Service spokesman Const. Claude Chancy confirmed city officers assisted Saskatchewan major crimes RCMP in apprehending the suspect, but said he could not reveal where the arrest took place.
The teen has also been charged with attempted murder, sexual assault with a firearm, robbery with a firearm and wearing a mask with intent to commit an indictable offence, as well as failing to comply with a Manitoba provincial court release order. His name can’t be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
RCMP took the teen, who was slated to appear in court in Yorkton, Sask., Tuesday, back to that province.
