Doctors understand how difficult it may be to adopt healthy habits. Change isn’t easy. To encourage Manitobans to take steps towards getting healthy, they created a contest.

President of Doctors Manitoba, Dr. Michael Boroditsky is excited to see Manitobans make small changes. “The last few years had a lot of disruptions, but as things get back to normal doctors recommend making getting healthy part of our new normal routine,” said Dr. Boroditsky.  Each change can help produce health benefits.

Recent research commissioned by Doctors Manitoba revealed some interesting statistics. A quarter of Manitobans rated their health as poor or fair, and 83% said they could be doing more to get or stay healthy.

With the vast majority of Manitobans interested in getting healthier and preventing disease, Doctors Manitoba is sharing simple tips to get started at GettingHealthy.ca, along with a chance to win one of over 30 prizes to those who take even a small step to improve their health. The grand prize includes a weekend at The Lakehouse in Clear Lake.

We invite all Manitobans to take a step towards getting healthy, because even a small step can end up making a big difference,” noted Dr. Boroditsky.

Whether it’s being active or eating well, reducing stress or sleeping better, or catching up on immunizations and medical screenings, our new Getting Healthy.ca resource has practical tips for Manitobans of all ages,” he added.

The GettingHealthy.ca site includes a variety of suggestions from doctors on how to move towards getting healthy. Tips, links to studies and articles are available so contest entrants can seek further information as they enter. For instance, to embrace getting active, it suggests limiting your sedentary time to no more than eight hours a day. And to reduce stress, the site advises Manitobans to spend at least two hours every week in nature. If you’re trying to improve your sleep hygiene there are a few tips about mobile phones before bed to assist you.

The site not only offers tips, but it also provides reasons why making these choices improves your health. A good night’s sleep can improve brain performance and mood and help to decrease the risk of fatigue, heart disease, stroke, obesity and dementia.

The contest is really easy to enter, or “push it” as the site says.  And there is no barrier to entry. Merely give your name and email address and you’ll be entered to win!

Contest Details: The contest is open to all Manitoba residents of all ages.

Deadline: June 30th

Draw: Early July
