Fire crews battle blaze in Transcona

4:43 PM

One person has been displaced from their home after a fire in Transcona.

Firefighters responded to reports of a house fire in the 100 block of Ralph Avenue East around 1:20 p.m. Saturday, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said in a release.

Crews found flames and heavy smoke billowing from the home. They attacked the blaze from inside, declaring it under control shortly before 2 p.m. Nobody was injured, WFPS said.

The City of Winnipeg’s emergency social services team is helping one person find temporary housing.

Firefighters believe the fire was accidentally caused by lithium-ion batteries, which were being charged, WFPS said.

Valour FC finishes July without a win

5:28 PM

Another match, another loss for Valour FC.

Winnipeg’s professional soccer club fell 3-0 to Pacific FC on Saturday afternoon thanks to an embarrassing showing at IG Field.

With the loss, Valour falls to 3-7-8 on the year which has them in seventh place in the eight-team Canadian Premier League.

Valour had five matches in July and only came away with one point — a 1-1 draw with Forge FC on July 15 at Tim Hortons Field

Valour’s next match is Aug. 6 when they hit the road to take on last place Vancouver FC.
