BRANDON — A train derailment in Brandon early Thursday forced the closure of both the north and southbound lanes of 18th Street at the Daly overpass.
The Brandon Police Service was advised of a train derailment under the overpass at about 1:45 a.m. Three Canadian Pacific railway cars left the track, and at least one of the cars struck a concrete support of the overpass.
Police said the support sustained visible damage and efforts to determine whether its strength and safety have been compromised are underway. The BPS said in a news release that the cars were not carrying hazardous goods.
Crews work at the scene of a train derailment at the Daly overpass on Thursday morning.
The north and southbound lanes of 18th Street were closed for hours before reopening late Thursday morning.
