Jets begin informal pre-training camp skates
1:35 PM
The Winnipeg Jets are getting training camp started a couple weeks early — unofficially, of course.
A large contingent of players have arrived in town this week to begin skating at the Hockey For All Centre.
Adam Lowry, Gabe Vilardi, Alex Iafallo, Neal Pionk, Laurent Brossoit and Dominic Toninato were the established NHLers on the ice Tuesday morning. Jeffrey Viel, Danny Zhilkin, Daniel Torgersson, Henri Nikkanen, Dmitry Kuzmin, Tyrel Bauer and Parker Ford also joined them for an hour-long session led by Dave Cameron, who runs the organization’s hockey development program.
More are expected to arrive in the coming days.
NHL training camps officially get underway on Sept. 20. Rookie camp starts on Sept. 13, with the prospects then heading to British Columbia the following day for the Young Stars tournament in Penticton.
The Jets open their six-game preseason schedule on Sept. 24, and begin their 82-game regular-season campaign on Oct. 11.
