Man arrested after Mounties threatened with knife
10:04 AM
RCMP used a Taser on a man wanted on a warrant after he allegedly threatened to stab officers in Dakota Tipi First Nation on Monday.
Portage la Prairie officers were sent to the First Nation at about 3:40 p.m. and found a suspect riding a bicycle. The man pulled out a knife and threatened to kill an officer, RCMP said Thursday.
The officer pulled out his gun and told the man to stop advancing towards him, and the suspect started cycling away, police said.
The officer followed the man and saw the suspect discard the knife in the bush, RCMP said.
Mounties chased the suspect on foot after he dumped the bike. The man allegedly threatened to stab and fight the officers during the foot chase. Officers used a Taser on the suspect and arrested him.
A 27-year-old man is facing new charges, including assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and uttering threats.

A senior has died from her injuries after she fell backwards into a boat’s propeller when the vessel hit a log.
The incident happened on the Winnipeg River, near the bridge off Riverland Road, at about 9 a.m. Monday.
RCMP said a male driver and the female passenger, both 65 and residents of the Rural Municipality of Lac du Bonnet, were headed southbound on the river when they hit a log floating in the water. The woman was sent backwards into the water, where she hit the propeller.
Three people on a nearby boat saw the collision and rushed to help get the woman out of the water.
The senior couple were taken to Lac du Bonnet’s town dock. An RCMP officer started giving the woman CPR while paramedics focused on her injuries, Mounties said Thursday.
The woman was flown by STARS air ambulance to Winnipeg after about 45 minutes. She died from her injuries on Wednesday, RCMP said.
Mounties are investigating the incident.
