Goldeyes’ Croes named Rookie of the Year

The accolades keeping coming for Winnipeg Goldeyes third baseman Dayson Croes.

He was named the American Association Rookie Position Player of the Year on Thursday.

Croes, 23, led the league with 135 hits, and his .351 average was fourth-best in the 12-team independent baseball circuit.

The native of Aruba was second on the Fish with 67 runs batted in and 41 walks. He struck out just 36 times in 439 plate appearances while also having a 25-game hitting streak earlier in the season that was the longest of the year in the league.

Croes was selected to play in the league’s annual All-Star Game earlier this summer, and he was named a postseason All-Star earlier this week along with teammate Max Murphy.
