Jets beat Red Wings 4-1 for third straight win

The Winnipeg Jets have extended their winning streak to three games after beating the Detroit Red Wings 4-1 at Little Caesars Arena.

Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck made 35 saves, while Nikolaj Ehlers, Kyle Connor, Mason Appleton and Nino Niederreiter scored for the visitors. Lucas Raymond had the Detroit goal.

Winnipeg improves to 4-3-0 on the season. Detroit falls to 5-2-1.

The Jets wrap up their two-game road trip on Saturday night in Montreal.

Jets lead Red Wings 2-1

Lucas Raymond scored the lone goal of the second period to trim the Winnipeg Jets lead over the Detroit Red Wings to 2-1.

Raymond pounced on a rebound after the initial shot from Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin to score his second goal of the season.

The Jets had built a 2-0 cushion in the first period after Nikolaj Ehlers and Kyle Connor scored 58 seconds apart.

Playing in his home state, Connor Hellebuyck has 16 saves for the Jets, while Morweena, Man. product James Reimer has 19 saves for the Red Wings.

Jets take 2-0 lead

The Winnipeg Jets got goals from Nikolaj Ehlers and Kyle Connor that came 58 seconds apart to take a 2-0 lead over the Detroit Red Wings after one period of play at Little Caesars Arena.

Ehlers scored his first of the season on a nice setup from Cole Perfetti, while Connor found a loose puck in the slot and ripped his shot home for his team-leading fifth of the campaign.

Connor Hellebuyck turned aside all nine shots he faced in the first period, while James Reimer of Morweena, Man. made eight saves for the Red Wings.

Jets move time to accommodate West Final

By moving puck drop back one hour, Manitoba sports fans should have a better opportunity to be part of a rare hockey-football doubleheader on Nov. 11.

The NHL announced on Thursday afternoon that the Winnipeg Jets game with the Dallas Stars will begin at 2 p.m. (rather than 3 p.m.) CT.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will host the CFL West final later that day, with kickoff slated for just after 5:30 p.m. CT.

Woman dead after being hit by train

A Portage la Prairie woman is dead after being struck by a train in the city.

Portage la Prairie RCMP and CP Police are investigating after a 30-year-old was hit by a westbound train at the 3rd Street NE crossing on Wednesday at about 8:05 p.m.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

Chris Stapleton returns to arena next April

Country-music superstar Chris Stapleton will take the stage at Canada Life Centre on April 3, 2024.

Tickets go on sale Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. at livenation.com and ticketmaster.ca. Prices were not announced.

Stapleton, known for such songs as Tennessee Whiskey and Broken Halos, has a new album, Higher, coming out Nov. 10.

War and Treaty, the country-soul husband-and-wife duo of Tanya Trotter and Michael Trotter Jr., and  R&B artist Allen Stone will open the show.

IIU investigating alleged police assault of Brandon youth

An alleged police assault against a Brandon girl is under investigation by the province’s police watchdog.]

The Independent Investigation Unit is investigating after a female youth allegedly suffered injuries during an arrest in Brandon on Oct. 16.

Child and Family Services provided a summary of the incident to the IIU. The watchdog is asking anyone with information or video footage to contact the IIU toll-free at 1-844-667-6060.
