Missing Thompson girl found safe

3:12 PM

A missing 14-year-old girl has been found safe.

Vera Lynn Flett was reported missing just before 11 p.m. on Oct. 23, after she was last seen earlier that evening at her home in Thompson.

RCMP said Tuesday afternoon that the teen has been found and is safe.

Injury apparently happened during ATV crash, not arrest

12:09 PM

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba says it appears a man who said he suffered a skull fracture while being arrested was actually injured in a later ATV crash.

The IIU said Tuesday that there is no evidence that the Thompson resident suffered a serious injury when he was arrested by RCMP in the northern city on July 28, 2022.

The man, who “suffers from schizophrenia,” apparently suffered the injury in an all-terrain vehicle crash in September 2022, the IIU said in its final report.

The IIU was notified of the man’s complaint in March 2023.

The IIU has ended its investigation.

Kelvin High under “medical lockdown”

12:05 PM

Kelvin High School has issued a “medical lockdown” as emergency personnel respond to an incident inside the River Heights building.

The Winnipeg Police Service confirmed it responded to a call about “a wellbeing type of situation” at the Grade 9-12 school around 11:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Radean Carter, spokeswoman for the Winnipeg School Division, indicated the high school has restricted internal movement for the safety and privacy of the student involved.

“Things are under control and there’s no safety concerns for the public or the students,” Const. Dani McKinnon told the Free Press.

Minnedosa RCMP search for missing man

11:16 AM

Minnedosa RCMP are searching for a missing man from the nearby Rural Municipality of Oakview.

RCMP say Jamie Wade, 55, was reported missing from a home in the RM on Monday, after he was last seen on Friday at about 5 p.m.

Mounties describe Wade as 5-10 in height and about 120 lbs., with short gray hair, green eyes. He wears glasses and was last spotted wearing black jeans and a plaid jacket.

RCMP ask anyone who knows where he might be to call the Minnedosa detachment at 204-867-2916 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.

RCMP HANDOUT Jamie Wade, 55, was last seen in the RM of Oakview on Oct. 27.

Bombers add some receiving insurance prior to playoffs

8:26 AM

The Blue Bombers have signed a player who aided the Toronto Argonauts’ cause in last season’s Grey Cup victory over Winnipeg.

The club has added veteran receiver Markeith Ambles to its practice roster. Ambles, listed at 6-1, 190 pounds, has 50 games of  CFL experience, split between the Calgary Stampeders and Argos. He had 15 receptions for 193 yards in four games this year with the Stampeders before his release in late September.

Ambles, 31, set career highs last year with the Argos, pulling in 72 passes for 737 yards and five touchdowns. He started in both playoff games for Toronto last November and had three catches for 47 yards in the championship win over the Blue Bombers.

Ambles was also part of the Stampeders’ Grey Cup team in 2018.
