A former X executive has taken the role of SkipTheDishes CEO.

Paul Burns will lead the Canadian food delivery platform, the company announced Tuesday. Burns replaces interim leader Steve Puchala, who entered the job last March.

Burns was managing director at the Canadian division of X (formerly called Twitter) from 2018 to January 2023. Before that, he held executive roles at Huge, a global digital agency, and Shaw Communications.

SkipTheDishes announced Paul Burns its new CEO on Tuesday.

“Paul’s background in technology uniquely positions him to adapt quickly and respond effectively to the ever-evolving and dynamic nature of the food and convenience delivery industry,” Howard Migdal, chief executive of Grubhub, said in a statement.

Migdal was SkipTheDishes’ CEO for four months before being appointed head of Grubhub. SkipTheDishes was acquired in 2016 by Just Eat, a global online food delivery giant, while the U.S. firm Grubhub was purchased in 2021.

Burns’ focus will be to support SkipTheDishes’ growth and its internal culture, Migdal’s statement said.

The company has 2,300 employees between its Winnipeg, Toronto and Calgary offices.

“This is an ever-evolving and dynamic industry that is only limited by our imaginations,” Burns said in a news release. “I am honoured to be stepping into the position of CEO.”

Puchala, the interim lead, will retire at the end of the year.

Midgal noted that the company will continue growing the Skip Express Lane, SkipTheDishes’ grocery offering.

SkipTheDishes began as a Prairies startup in 2012. Its headquarters are in Winnipeg.

The company laid off 350 Winnipeg employees last year, citing sustainable growth as a reason.
