Blue-liner Avery Pickering of St. Adolphe and centre Sara Manness of La Salle have been named to Canada’s national under-18 women’s hockey team that will participate in the U18 Women’s World Hockey Championship in Zug, Switzerland, next month.

Pickering, 17, currently plays for Colgate University in the NCAA’s Eastern College Athletic Conference where she has three goals and two assists in 17 games.

Pickering, who represented Canada at the U18 worlds last season, also played for U18 Team Manitoba at the 2023 Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island and at the 2021 Western Regional Women’s U18 Championship in Portage la Prairie.

Prior to attending Colgate, Pickering played three seasons for the Balmoral Hall Blazers in the Junior Women’s Hockey League.

Manness, 16, played for Manitoba and was recently named MVP of the national U18 championship in Dawson Creek, B.C.

She’s currently suiting up for the U22 Burlington Jr. Barracudas of the Ontario Women’s Hockey League, where she has 46 points (19 goals, 46 points) in 16 games. Prior to joining the Barracudas, Manness also played for Balmoral Hall Blazers.
