WINNIPEG Free Press unionized employees have ratified a new contract that includes an 8.75 per cent wage increase over three years.

A significant majority — 94.5 per cent of voters — accepted the deal Sunday.

The three-year agreement covers unionized full-time and part-time employees, and outside carriers, at the daily newspaper. It includes benefits improvements, FP Newspapers Inc. noted in a news release Friday.

Unionized workers at the Winnipeg Free Press voted 94.5 per cent in favour of ratifying a new contract, Sunday.

“We are pleased to have reached a fair and reasonable outcome,” Dave Kreklewetz, the company’s chief financial officer, said in the news release.

“Despite the continued challenges imposed daily on the newspaper industry, the company remained committed to bargaining in good faith,” the statement continues.

He said the company looks forward to having the “strong working relationship” with unionized staff to serve the Free Press’s growing audience.
