Twenty driver’s licence suspension in week three of holiday checkstops

The Winnipeg Police Service handed out 20 immediate driver’s licence prohibitions, two people tested positive for having used cannabis, and six drivers were criminally charged for driving while impaired in the third week of the holiday checkstop program.
The program, which sees more police monitoring the streets, began Dec. 1 and will run until New Year’s Eve. There were 710 vehicles stopped and checked last week. There were also 11 general offence traffic tickets handed out.
In December 2022’s checkstop program, there were 47 immediate roadside driving prohibitions and 28 people charged with impaired driving, 10 of which were involved in collisions. One of those collisions resulted in a death.
