Many businesses and government services change their hours over New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
Here’s a selection:
SHOPPING
CF Polo Park is open 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. New Year’s Eve and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. New Year’s Day.
St. Vital Centre is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. New Year’s Eve and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. New Year’s Day.
Grant Park Shopping Centre and Kildonan Place are open 12-4 p.m. New Year’s Eve and closed New Year’s Day.
Outlet Collection Winnipeg is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. New Year’s Eve and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. New Year’s Day.
The Forks Market is open. Festivities, typically held on New Year’s Eve, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on New Year’s Day this year. Scheduled programming includes winter activities, musical performances and a drag brunch.
Most grocery stores, including Safeway, Sobeys, Superstore and Walmart, are open both days at reduced hours.
Manitoba Liquor Mart stores in Winnipeg operate 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. New Year’s Eve and are closed New Year’s Day. For details on exceptions and rural Liquor Mart hours, visit http://wfp.to/jYA.
Beer vendors and private wine stores set their own hours for the holiday, so Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Corp. suggests the best way to find out if the one near you will be open is to call.
ENTERTAINMENT
The Assiniboine Park Zoo is open both days.
The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. New Year’s Eve and closed New Year’s Day.
The Children’s Museum is open 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. both days.
The Manitoba Museum is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. New Year’s Eve and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. New Year’s Day.
The Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. New Year’s Eve and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. New Year’s Day.
The Winnipeg Art Gallery is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. New Year’s Eve and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. New Year’s Day.
Movie theatres are open.
RECYCLING AND TRASH
Recycling and garbage will be collected Tuesday for those with New Year’s Day (Monday) as their scheduled collection date.
The Brady Road landfill is closed New Year’s Day.
LEISURE ACTIVITIES
All leisure centres close at 4 p.m. New Year’s Eve and stay closed New Year’s Day.
City of Winnipeg swimming pools close at 4 p.m. New Year’s Eve and remain closed New Year’s Day.
WINNIPEG TRANSIT
On New Year’s Day (Monday), buses will operate on a Sunday schedule.
All Transit buses will offer free rides after 7 p.m. New Year’s Eve. The last buses leave downtown at around 1:30 a.m.
Transit will operate extended hours on certain routes New Year’s Eve. Riders can check Navigo for more details.

LIBRARIES
All Winnipeg Public Library branches are closed New Year’s Day.

CEMETERIES
Brookside, St. Vital and Transcona cemetery grounds are open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. both days. Cemetery offices will be closed on New Year’s Day.

GOVERNMENT SERVICES
Civic, provincial and federal offices are closed New Year’s Day.
The Winnipeg Parking Authority is closed New Year’s Day.
The Winnipeg Animal Services Agency is open 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. New Year’s Eve and is closed New Year’s Day.
There is no mail delivery on New Year’s Day. Canada Post offices are closed, but post offices operated by the private sector will be open according to the hours of service of the host business.
