The Winnipeg Police Service major crimes unit has taken over an investigation into explosives discovered in a south Winnipeg condo.

Residents of the building in the 300 block of Warde Avenue were evacuated when police and firefighters responded to the explosives report at about 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 4. Residents have since been allowed to return to their homes.

“The Winnipeg Police Service’s Bomb Unit attended and determined they were commercial explosives and safely removed them. There were no signs that detonation was imminent,” the WPS said in a press release.
