Team Reid Carruthers to represent Manitoba at the Brier

STONEWALL — It sounds odd but Brad Jacobs is, indeed, a Manitoba champion.
The 2014 Olympic champion and former Brier winner from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., skipped a Winnipeg team to the Viterra provincial men’s curling championship Sunday afternoon.
Jacobs, who is the import on the Reid Carruthers team out of the Granite Club, guided the squad to a 6-3 win over Braden Calvert of Fort Rouge in the championship final.
Jacobs, Carruthers, Derek Samagalski and Connor Njegovan will represent Manitoba at the Brier next month in Regina.
Jets place Toninato on waivers

The Winnipeg Jets have placed forward Dominic Toninato on waivers.
He will report to the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League if no other NHL team puts in a claim by Monday afternoon.
Toninato, 29, has appeared in 15 games with the Jets this season, with one goal and four assists.
His removal off the 23-man roster would allow the Jets to either activate forward David Gustafsson off injured reserve, or perhaps consider calling up defenceman Ville Heinola from the Moose.
