Rutger McGroarty is heading back to college.
The top Winnipeg Jets forward prospect, selected 14th-overall in 2022, has decided to return to Michigan for his junior season rather than immediately sign with the organization.
The player, his family and the Jets have had extensive conversations in recent days and ultimately decided this was the best path.
McGroarty, 20, emerged as one of the top players in the NCAA this season with 52 points (16 goals, 36 assists) in 36 games. He also captained the U.S. World Junior team to a gold medal, just six weeks after suffering a devastating on-ice injury including a punctured lung and broken rib.
His Wolverines made it to the Frozen Four but lost 4-0 in the semi-final last week.
