A woman was killed when she was hit by a train while walking on tracks near The Forks early on Canada Day.
City police were sent to the area of the 200 block of Stradbrook Avenue at about 3:54 a.m. and were directed to the 38-year-old Winnipeg woman by rail crews.
The Winnipeg Police Service said the conductor of the train, who remained at the scene, did not have sufficient time to avoid the collision.
Police said earlier Tuesday that the woman had gotten off a passenger train before being hit but later said she had not travelled on, nor disembarked from, a passenger train.
Police have identified the woman who was killed.
