Inmate slain at Stony Mountain Institution

RCMP are investigating after an inmate was slain at Stony Mountain Institution on Monday.
Police were called at about 7:30 p.m. after a serious assault at the federal prison north of Winnipeg. A 37-year old man suffering from serious injuries was transported to hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Dean Young was serving a sentence of nearly nine years for multiple charges, including aggravated assault and break and enter. He had been in prison since May 2022.

RCMP major crime services are investigating, and the forensic identification unit was also sent in.
Correctional Service Canada said in a release it would review the circumstances of the inmate’s death.
