Thompson man shot with BB pellet while playing volleyball

A man was shot with a BB pellet while playing volleyball outside in Thompson on Tuesday night.

Mounties were called to the outdoor sports courts on Thompson Drive in the northern city just before 10 p.m. over reports of a man randomly shooting an air pistol at people. The 32-year-old man was hit in the face with a pellet and suffered minor injuries. He didn’t know the assailant, Mounties said.

Witnesses told RCMP what the suspect was wearing and what direction he headed in. Mounties found the suspect on nearby Goldeye Crescent and chased him.

The suspect fired the air pistol at an officer and RCMP shocked him with a Taser before getting him into cuffs. The Mountie wasn’t hurt.

The 20-year-old suspect was charged with two counts of discharge an air gun with intent, assault with a weapon and carrying a concealed weapon. He was also taken in on a warrant for a 2022 robbery.

An 18-year-old woman he was with was also arrested but released ahead of a court date.
