One man dead after four-vehicle highway crash

One man is dead and another is seriously hurt after a multi-vehicle crash on the Perimeter Highway overnight.

Three pickup trucks and a semi-trailer crashed at the intersection of Highway 15 and Highway 101 at about 12:35 a.m. July 30. RCMP investigators said one of the pickup trucks made contact with another truck while the three pickups were travelling westbound on Highway 15.

“That contact made the first truck lose control and veer to the right, where it struck the side of a trailer of a semi-trailer stopped at the red light in the southbound lane of the Perimeter Highway,” RCMP stated in a news release. The crash caused the second pickup truck to hit the third one, and both of those pickups went through the intersection.

RCMP said the male driver of the first pickup involved in the collision was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the second pickup was transported to Winnipeg hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the third pickup was treated and released on scene. All males were in their 20s. The 69-year-old male semi-driver was not hurt, police said.

Oakbank RCMP are still investigating.
