The 2024 Summer Games are giving Proline bettors plenty of opportunities to follow the progress of Canadian athletes.

According to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp., 96 per cent of Proline players successfully backed Canadian swimmer Summer McIntosh’s gold medal victory in the women’s 200-metre medley last week. It was her third gold medal of the Games.

Ninety-four per cent of bettors had Ethan Katzberg winning the men’s hammer throw while 93 per cent backed Camryn Rogers’ victory in the women’s hammer throw.

But there was a surprising result in men’s basketball. After going 3-0 during the preliminary round, Canada dropped a stunning 82-73 quarter-final loss to France on Tuesday.

Just five per cent of bettors backed France but 52 cent had the French +8.5.

It was a tough weekend for the Toronto Blue Jays. After winning the series opener 8-5 on Friday over the New York Yankees, the Jays were on the losing end of 8-3 and 4-3 decisions Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

A solid 71 per cent of bettors backed the New York moneyline Sunday with only seven per cent supporting Toronto at +1.5. On Saturday, 69 per cent of players supported the Yankees’ moneyline with 67 per cent having the winners at -1.5.

In CFL action Sunday, Calgary rallied to down Toronto 27-23 at McMahon Stadium. The Stampeders outscored the Argonauts 21-0 in the fourth quarter to secure the home victory.

But only 36 per cent of bettors backed Calgary’s moneyline.

A Proline digital player won $1,652 from a $1 bet on a 12-pick major-league baseball parlay, A retail bettor turned a $2 wager into $1,108 with a successful 11-pick baseball parlay using all over-under markets.

Another digital player won $1,328 on a $4 bet on a 12-pick baseball parlay while a retail bettor claimed $1,657 from a $12 wager on a four-pick soccer parlay.

Mayoral hopeful Woodstock promises to fast-track approvals for Indigenous-led projects

Matthew Frank 2 minute read 2:27 PM CDT

Mayoral candidate Don Woodstock promised Monday to create a new municipal office to “level the playing field” and fast-track city approvals for Indigenous led-projects.

The office would create a direct pipeline for those projects when undergoing zoning regulations and setting up municipal services, such as sewage, so development timelines can be met or sped up, he said Monday.

The office would also be an “important step” in restoring equity for Indigenous developments, Woodstock said.

“If you’re Indigenous, I’m going to make sure that I put in place something that will tell you that under no circumstances you’ll be discriminated against because of your nationality, race, colour, creed,” he said.

When Chelsea Smith heard the Backstreet Boys were coming to Toronto, she had a simple message for the five men who soundtracked her childhood.

“Here's my credit card, take all my money.”

The 35-year-old Vancouver fan wasn’t bluffing. Having already travelled to Las Vegas to see her teenybopper crushes, she's now preparing to fly across the country for two Toronto concerts, spending roughly $600 on tickets alone.

And she's hardly the only millennial willing to pay a tidy sum to party like it’s 1999.

Four charged in St. James fight

2 minute read Yesterday at 4:03 PM CDT

Four people are facing charges after an assault at a St. James apartment building.

A man was struck in the face with a pistol when he answered the door at his apartment suite in the 2200 block of Portage Avenue at about 2:15 a.m. Oct. 18, and a physical fight broke out in the hallway. Bear spray was used during the fight, the Winnipeg Police Service stated in a news release Sunday.

Police learned one of the men involved in the fight had been armed at a nearby restaurant, in the 2100 block of Portage Avenue, where he was refused service. Restaurant staff called police after seeing what appeared to be a gun in the man's hand as he was leaving.

A group of men then went to the apartment building and knocked on a suite door, police said, adding the men involved knew each other. The man who was armed at the restaurant was involved in the altercation, police stated, but no specific details about his role were released.
