Man who fell crossing road killed in hit-and-run

Police say a man died after he fell while walking across Queen Elizabeth Way and was hit by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene early Thursday.

Police were sent to Queen Elizabeth Way and Mayfair Avenue at about 3:30 a.m. A seriously injured man was transported to hospital in critical condition, where he died from his injuries.

A preliminary investigation indicated the male was walking across Queen Elizabeth Way when he fell, the Winnipeg Police Service said late Thursday morning. He was struck by a southbound vehicle while trying to get up, the WPS said.
