Man, 22, missing from Bridgwater

A 22-year-old man, Zeyad Shammo, has been reported missing and police are concerned for his wellbeing.

Shammo was last seen in the Bridgwater area of southwest Winnipeg at about 6:20 p.m. on Sept. 9. Police believe he is driving a 2018 black Honda Civic Touring vehicle with the Manitoba licence plate number LLN 113.

He’s described as 5’8″ tall, weighing 185 pounds with a medium build, with brown hair, green eyes and a beard.

The Winnipeg Police Service is asking anyone with information on Shammo’s whereabouts to call the missing persons unit at 204-986-6250.

Man robbed of gun at gunpoint

A man has been charged with several offences after he allegedly pointed a handgun at someone while robbing him of a shotgun.

RCMP were called about the incident in the parking lot of a business on Dufferin Street in The Pas at about 6:50 p.m. Monday. The suspect fled on foot.

An off-duty RCMP officer saw a man climbing onto a garage a short time later. The man tried to get into a vehicle, but the alarm went off, and he fled on foot.

A suspect was arrested by patrolling officers after a short foot chase. The 26-year-old man was found to be wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for being unlawfully at large.

An RCMP spokeswoman said the man who was robbed did not report the incident to police and investigators are looking into whether the two men know each other.

“We also have questions for the possible victim in regards to why they had a shotgun in the vehicle,” she said.

Hit-and-run driver sought after pickup truck hits pedestrian in Selkirk

RCMP are searching for a driver who fled the scene after hitting a man crossing the street in Selkirk last week.

The 22-year-old pedestrian was hit by a pickup truck in the 300 block of Sophia Street at about 2:40 p.m. Friday.

The Selkirk resident was found by a passerby a short time later and transported to hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. He was treated and released.

The truck is described as a grey Ford F150 with four teenagers inside.

Woman waiting for bus robbed at knifepoint

Winnipeg police are looking for a suspect after a woman in her 40s was robbed at knifepoint while she waited for a bus in the city’s North End.

Police said the woman was not injured in the robbery, which happened near Main Street and Mountain Avenue at about 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Police described the suspect as a stocky Indigenous male who is about 5-7 in height, had a shaved head and was wearing a medical-type mask.

City police warn of fake taxi scam

Winnipeg police are warning of a recent scam in which con artists are posing as taxi drivers and passengers to drain money from victims’ bank accounts.

Drivers with fake “taxi” signs on the roofs of their vehicles are roaming high-traffic areas, such as mall parking lots, to look for potential victims.

Police said a fraudster pretending to be a passenger gets out and approaches a bystander, telling them the taxi doesn’t accept cash.

The bystander is asked to use their debit card to pay for the fare in exchange for cash.

The con artists use card-skimming techniques to withdraw far more money than the supposed fare amount, said police.

Financial crimes unit detectives and the City of Winnipeg are investigating the scam.
