After an incident of “credential stuffing” identified in July, Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries is continuing to encourage people who use its PlayNow online gaming platform to reset their passwords.
The incident was identified by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation, which operates the platform in partnership with Manitoba’s Crown corporation.
Credential stuffing occurs when bad actors attempt to access accounts with email addresses and passwords previously exposed or stolen from other companies, on the premise that people often use the same user ID and password on different websites.
PlayNow, which reached out to players whose accounts had been affected and suspended, is still locking accounts with suspected suspicious activity, requiring them to contact the site to verify their identities and reset their passwords.
“This may be inconveniencing some customers but the integrity and security of our players’ accounts is extremely important,” said MLL in an email.
