Police are searching for suspects after a man was stabbed during an incident that began on a city bus Sunday night.
The Winnipeg Police Service said the 36-year-old man suffered a serious but non-life-threatening injury to his upper body. He was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.
Police were sent to the area of St. Mary’s Road and Vivian Street at about 8:50 p.m.
The investigation determined the victim was travelling on a southbound bus when multiple people he does not know boarded at Marion Street and St. Mary’s Road. The group and the victim got into an argument, and several members of the group assaulted the victim, the WPS said in a news release Tuesday.
The altercation spilled outside of the bus on the 200 block of St. Mary’s, where one of the suspects stabbed the victim in the upper body, police said.
A passenger helped the victim get back on the bus, and the driver contacted police. The suspects fled on foot before officers arrived.
The WPS has asked anyone with information about the incident to contact its major crimes unit at 204-986-6219, or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477 (TIPS) or online.
