The province has issued a precautionary boil-water advisory for Beausejour after a power outage at the local water-treatment plant.

The provincial health and environment departments issued the advisory Thursday. The power outage, caused by electrical work at the plant, led to a “momentary loss of water pressure” in the town’s water system, the provincial notice said.

“Distribution depressurization can compromise the safety of the water supply; therefore, a precautionary boil-water advisory has been issued to ensure public health protection,” provincial officials said.

The province advised all water used for drinking, preparing food and beverages and brushing teeth should be brought to a rolling boil for at least a minute. Water for other household purposes, such as bathing, doesn’t need to be boiled, but officials recommend sponge-bathing small children.

The advisory will remain in effect until the water no longer presents a risk, the officials said.
