Manitoba RCMP continue to investigate the death of a toddler whose remains were found in a barn northwest of Winnipeg, with Mounties now canvassing a nearby community in search of clues.
Officers were going door-to-door in Ashern Saturday seeking information about Xavia Skye Lynn Butler, who police believe was around two years old before she died.
Xavia’s remains were recovered June 3 from a barn in the nearby Rural Municipality of Grahamdale, located in the Interlake region around 250 kilometres from Winnipeg.

RCMP said they are working to piece together a timeline surrounding the child’s death.
Investigators have been able to physically place Xavia one year before her remains were found, and say she was never reported missing. No charges have been laid, and the death is being investigated as a homicide, police said.
The infant was living with her biological family on a property neighbouring the barn, which has a different owner. Police said she was from Pinaymootang First Nation.
Natalie Anderson, a relative who spoke with the Free Press after the child was identified, said she last saw Xavia in March 2022.
Anderson helped organize a sacred fire for Xavia on Memorial Boulevard Friday. It was expected to continue burning until midday Tuesday.
Premier Wab Kinew previously said a situation where a young person’s death is investigated as a homicide “is one of the worst things that could happen.”
“As a leader of a provincial government, when something like this happens in Manitoba it makes you stop and take stock of what is happening across this land, and resolve that, with respect for this ongoing investigation as information comes out, we will have an attention towards preventing incidents like this from happening again,” he said.
Anyone with information on the toddler, or photos of her taken after March 2022 are asked to call the RCMP Major Crime Services tip line at 431-489-8112.
